Compiled by a trio of well-known collectors, dealers, and specialty publishers, it remains a rare and valuable survey of early fantastic literature. The basic arrangement is by author and tide. In addition, each entry provides publisher, place, and date of publication a categorization of the book by type of fantasy, and a plot description ranging from 100 to 150 words in length. The tide index gives title and author only. The authors also attempt to define the various genres and subgenres of imaginative literature in a lengthy introduction that still deserves rereading by the serious scholar.
